For the last 9 years of my life I have been battling with Social Anxiety Disorder. I was prescribed Paxil for treatment and although it helped, the side effects were just not worth it. I had attempted to quit taking the drug a few years back but with no success. The withdrawal affects were just too strong. I basically came to the realization that I would be on these pills for the rest of my life.

It was the big Anxiety & Depression banner that caught my eye one day while I was walking through Limeridge Mall. I sat down with Dr. Brad for a free consultation and nerve scan. If I had to use only one word to describe my chiropractic experience it would be “wow-incredible-amazing!” Okay, so that’s more that one word; however, I can’t limit myself to just one!!!

I cannot begin to describe the phenomenal changes that have happened to my body and the most amazing thing was that it happened just mere hours after my first adjustment! I have suffered from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) for at least 8 years and the frequent constipation, painful cramping, bloating, and inability to eat many foods took its toll both physically and emotionally. I don’t want to be gross – and how can I put this mildly – but within 2 hours of my very first adjustment I was like a faucet that had been turned on and the pipes were no longer clogged (translation: the constipation had ended)! It was been almost 3 months and my body continues to respond positively and I haven’t felt this good in so many years. I’m finally beginning to remember what it feels like to be “normal” again!

I have endured chronic low back pain for over 40 years. If you had have asked me back in November when I first went into Dr. Deakin’s office if I would have signed on for a year of Chiropractic treatment I would have laughed in your face. Especially when I learned that it was 3 times a week for so many months then 2 times a week and then once a week. What a commitment, the commute one way took longer than each visit.

I had been to other chiropractors, massage therapists and osteopathy, with no significant results so I wanted proof. I was so skeptical that I actually had Dr. Deakin show me before and after x-rays of prior patients. Through the whole process Dr. D was patient, honest but most of all his sincerity helped me to trust that this would work for me.

The first few weeks I would have knots in my stomach driving to the office. Each gentle adjustment my tension lessoned and I began to look forward to my visits. Nothing brightens your day more than a smile from Michelle, and a quick (or not so quick) chat. The whole atmosphere of the office made the experience enjoyable.

About 5 months in I noticed I was no longer reaching for the Advil before a run, and I was in training for my first ½ marathon. I didn't feel sore in the mornings and I stopped feeling like my shoulder blades were fused together. That was when I really understood that the changes that were talked about in those first visits were beginning to happen.

Dr. Deakin was always checking to make sure I was doing my stretches and using my wedge, not to nag but to make sure I would gain the most benefit from the treatments. Any time I had a question regarding my treatment; I was listened to and given honest feedback either in the office or through e-mail. If you are in pain it is within your power to change it. Research, ask questions, compare practices, I did and I wouldn't change a thing. Well maybe just one; the location, so it won't take so long to get to my "happy place.
